Maritime Technology Division

Petroleum, Oil & Lubricants

Distillation at Atmospheric Pressure

To determine the characteristics of the boiling range of petroleum products using an automatic distillation apparatus.

Kinematic Viscosity

To determine the kinematic viscosity of petroleum materials. Viscosity is reported in two different temperatures of 40°C (100°F) or 100°C (212°F).

Measurement of Fuel System Icing Inhibitors (Ether Type)

To determine the concentration rate of  Diethylene Glycol Monomethyl Ether  (Di-EGME) content in aviation fuel.

Water Reaction

To determine the presence of water components in aviation turbine fuel and the effect of these components on the volume change and on the fuel interface.

Particulate Contamination

Gravimetrically determine the amount of contaminant particles in aviation turbine fuel samples using filtration.

Corrosiveness to Copper from Petroleum Products by Copper Strip Test

To determine the effectiveness of petroleum materials on copper.

Maritime Platform Monitoring

Vibration Measurement And Analysis

Measurement and analysis of vibrations on ship structures and machinery.

Noise Level Measurement

Measurement of the noise level (dB) of the environment.

Material Acoustic Properties Test

Measurement of  sound absorption coefficients  and  impedance .

Non-Destructive Testing

Radiography

Testing on the welding of ship or vehicle structures to identify  defects  in certain locations, for example welding.

Magnetic Particles

Testing to identify  defects  on the surface and sub-surface of welding or  ferromagnetic materials  such as  iron ,  nickel  and  cobalt .

Dye Penetrant

Testing on the outer surface of the weld to identify defects such as  surface cracks .

Thickness Measurement

Measurements to determine the thickness of the hull .

Material

Material Composition Determination (Metal/Alloy)

Determination of material composition by elemental analysis for solid, powder or liquid samples.

Equipment:
-  Hitachi Zeeman Atomic Absorption Spectrometer .
-  Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (WDXRF) Bruker S4 Pioneer .

Material Microscopic Analysis (Microstructure, Metallurgy)

Analysis of the microstructure of materials through micrographic sample preparation procedures. The analysis aims to identify the type of alloy, material defects, causes of material failure and others.

Equipment:
-  Image Analyzer AxioVision.

Topographical Analysis (Confocal LSM)

Material characterization through surface topographic features (example: Corrosion Classification). Using a laser with a specific wavelength to ensure the accuracy of surface observation. Using 2D & 3D imaging.

Equipment :
-  Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope  (CLSM).

Micro-Hardness Testing (Vickers)

Hardness testing of materials such as metals/alloys, paints, wires and cables.

Material Electrochemical Test & Analysis (Material Corr. Characterization, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy)

A study of the behavior/properties of materials against the action of corrosion in the marine environment.

Material Failure Analysis

Identify the cause of component/material failure in the field and laboratory.  Non  and  Destructive Testing  includes  Microscopy testing  ( microstructure, morphology  and  topographical testing ), mechanical  testing  ( hardness, tensile  and  electrochemical testing ).

Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Test

Inspection of closed indoor air environment (buildings/vessels) to monitor and guarantee the quality of a healthy environment for workers/members/staff.

Scratch Tester

Material mechanical test: To determine the ability of the coating material or the surface of the modified material against - Scratch resistance ( scratch ),  critical load  ( brittle & hard coating ), working load  ( soft coating ) and adhesion at  the coating-substrate interface.

Wear Tester (POD)

Material mechanical test: To determine the material's ability/resistance to friction and the wear rate of the surface of the material/coating.

Accelerated Surface Area & Porosimetry (ASAP) Test

Test: Characterization of the material's surface, porosity, chemical adhesion properties or physical adhesion of the material.

Wear Metal Analysis

Determination of dissolved particles from  metal materials  in petroleum-based products.
